This counter answers
What the Written Quote Contains
The only product this counter actually makes is a piece of writing. So here is exactly what is in it, including the parts that make it read worse than a competitor's.
The four fields
- What the hold asks
- What exactly comes back when somebody asks for a free quote
- What comes back
- Nine named items, in the same order every time, and a plain statement of which questions no lot answered
- When to ask
- Within one posted working day of the request arriving
- If it is not asked
- Nothing to ask for. This is what a request produces, and a quote missing any of the nine gets reissued rather than explained away

The nine items
- The dates, as you gave them, written back so a mistake is visible.
- The car, as you described it, for the same reason.
- The daily rate range for the ground each answering lot offers, with the lot unnamed until a hold is placed.
- The slip rate for a day beyond the dates.
- Every addition the lot named, with whose charge each one is.
- The answers to whichever questions you ticked, in the lot's own words, dated.
- The questions no lot answered, listed rather than omitted.
- What is not included, which is longer than most people expect and is on the rates page in full.
- The hours of this counter, so you know when a reply is possible.
Item seven is the point of the whole thing
A quote that only prints the answers reads better and tells you less. Listing the unanswered questions is the difference between a document you can act on and an advertisement.
If you asked whether a roof stays free and no lot would say, the quote says that. If you asked what happens after a clearance run and one lot answered and two did not, the quote says which. Silence is information, and it is the information most often removed from documents like this one.
What the quote is not
It is not a reservation. A quote is a set of prices and answers, and nothing is held by it. A hold happens afterwards, when you say which lot and the lot confirms.
It is not a confirmation from the lot either. This counter's writing is this counter's. The lot's confirmation belongs to the lot, which is why written_confirmation is false on the claims sheet.
And it is not binding on the lot. Rates move, ground fills, and a quote is the state of the answers on the day it was written, with that date on it.
Getting one
There is no charge, no account, no card field anywhere on this site, and no obligation of any kind. Use the request form, or telephone during posted hours and speak to a specialist who will take the same details by voice and send the same nine items in writing afterwards.
