Using This Counter Without Using the Website

The telephone does everything

+1 (414) 431-6802, Monday to Saturday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Central. A call takes the same details the request form takes, sends the same questions to the same lots, and produces the same nine item quote in writing afterwards. Nothing on this site is a shortcut to a better service than a call gets.

That is the honest first answer to an access question. Everything below is about the site, and the site is optional.

Built so the page does not depend on the script

Turn the script off and nothing disappears. Sections that would fade in are simply already there. The request checklist keeps working, because it is made of ordinary checkboxes rather than anything clever. The form posts the plain way. The one thing that changes is that the storage notice never appears, which is a small improvement.

There is also no button to open a menu, because there is no menu: the links sit in a row that wraps when the screen narrows. And nothing on this site is pinned to the edge of the window, so nothing rides along with you as you scroll or zoom.

The worksheet without seeing it

The three groups are stated as sentences, in their own elements, before the description of each line: the operator answers, this counter answers, nobody answers. A reader hearing the page gets the same three way split in the same order as a reader seeing it.

The small squares beside each line are marked as decoration and skipped, because they repeat what the sentence already said. The four fields on a clause page are a description list, so the label arrives attached to its value.

The checklist and its running count

Eight ordinary checkboxes. Each explanation lives inside its own label rather than beside it, so the explanation is read out with the item rather than orphaned after it.

The running count is announced politely and only when it changes. It counts ticks. It is not a countdown, there is no clock anywhere on this site, and no message will ever appear here telling you that somebody else is booking.

Type, zoom and color

Sizes are relative, so the browser's own text setting enlarges everything rather than clipping it. One column, which holds at double size without the page sliding sideways; the two tables sit in their own scrolling strip so the strip moves and the page stays put. Long strings wrap rather than shove.

Nothing relies on color alone. The claim marks read stated and not stated as words. The worksheet groups are sentences. Links inside a paragraph are underlined as well as colored, and the focus ring is never switched off.

Movement

One short fade, once, the first time a section arrives. That is all. No carousel, nothing that plays by itself, nothing that moves as you scroll. Ask your system for reduced motion and the fade does not happen at all, because the stylesheet honors the request rather than the script imitating it. If the script never loads, a timer reveals everything anyway.

Tested how

Read aloud with a screen reader on macOS by heading and by landmark. Driven from the keyboard with the pointer unplugged. Contrast measured rather than judged by eye. Read at double size and with the browser's smallest text size raised. Every page read once with scripting switched off.

Two things not promised

A phone in a hand was not tested. The narrow layout was checked by making a desktop window narrow, which is the same layout branch a phone gets but is not the same as a phone with a reader running on it. Said plainly rather than implied.

A lot's own ground is not this counter's to describe. Whether a particular lot has a step free route to where its van waits, or a van with a lift, is a fact about premises this counter has never stood on. It will put that question to the lots as part of any quote and print whatever comes back, including nothing, and it will not describe access it has not been told about. That is the same rule the rest of the site runs on: what nobody confirms.

Something unreadable
